Open Water Swim Start Boulder 70.3

Breno Melo

I dove into the whole endurance sports scene way back when I was just a kid, spending a whopping 25 years swimming with the competitive Minas Tenis Clube team in Brazil. Then, when I came to the US for college, I switched gears and became a running enthusiast. From 2008 to 2011, I was all about running; – nailed quite a few marathons and shorter-distance races and even qualified for the Boston Marathon.

In 2011, I decided to spice things up and jumped into triathlons. Got totally hooked, took on the Ironman challenge, and rocked my first full Ironman in Florida in 2012. I kept pushing my limits with races in Arizona (2013), Brazil and Maryland (2014), and wrapped it up with Texas, Coeur d'Alene, and Roth in 2015 before being diagnosed with my knee diseases and having to take a year out for recovery.

One of the big moments came in 2016 when I snagged the 2nd spot overall among the amateur racers at the 70.3 Pan American Championship, scoring my Professional triathlon license. After that, from 2016 to 2021, I went pro, hitting up over 50 races around the world and landing on the podium about a dozen times.

While doing all that, I was also coaching the Boston University
Triathlon team, helping out a cool mix of undergrad and grad students. Plus, I was running the endurance program for Lifetime Fitness in the Northeast from
2014 to 2019, teaming up with the Pan-Mass Challenge in New England to cook up a special training program for their riders.

I've coached kiddos as young as 6, giving them the lowdown on biking and running with in-person lessons. And hey, I played a part in creating
the New England Kids Triathlon with some rad summer clinics and events.

I'm crazy passionate about the sport and love working with all kinds of athletes. You can count on me to bring a ton of accountability and share my know-how, mixing in some data, science, and loads of hands-on experience. And yeah, I'm proud to say I've got a flexible program that can handle even the busiest athletes out there.
